Mauricio Pochettino: 'Vincent Janssen gives us something different'

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino believes that new recruit Vincent Janssen gives his side "a different option" in attack alongside Harry Kane.

Mauricio Pochettino has praised the impact made by Vincent Janssen in Tottenham Hotspur's opening-day draw with Everton at Goodison Park.

The summer signing from AZ made a real difference for the Lilywhites when brought off the bench and partnered alongside Harry Kane in attack.

Spurs had been trailing 1-0 to an early Ross Barkley goal on Merseyside when Erik Lamela popped up on the hour to salvage a draw for his side, which Pochettino believes the visitors deserved on the balance of things.

"The first half was difficult for us and we did not play well," he told BBC Sport. "Hugo Lloris got injured and that was a big impact on us. In the second half we played as we usually play.

"They scored early and they believed they could win the game. The were very motivated. We tried to correct the problems we had in the first half. With another striker, the team felt comfortable. Vincent Janssen brought good energy on the team and he gives us a different option."

Pochettino also revealed post match that Lloris will undergo a scan on Sunday to assess the damage of the injury picked up in the first half.
