Manchester United held 1-1 by Southampton

A late Adam Lallana goal gives Southampton a share of the spoils against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have been held by Southampton to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the Premier League this afternoon.

Robin van Persie's 26th minute goal looked like giving the home side the three points, before Adam Lallana deflected Dejan Lovren's header goalwards in the 89th minute to level it for the Saints.

The Dutchman, fresh from becoming the Netherlands' all-time top scorer during the international break, continued his good form when he rounded goalkeeper Artur Boruc after the Poland stopper had kept out Wayne Rooney.

Rooney nearly doubled the lead minutes later when he fired a powerful effort against the crossbar after he was allowed the room to turn inside the box by the Saints' defence.

Van Persie had a goal disallowed for offside after playing a one-two with Rooney to leave him one-on-one with Boruc on the hour mark.

United hit the bar again four minutes later when teenager Adnan Januzaj, fresh from signing a new contract at Old Trafford, hit a fine effort from all of 25 yards.

With the game seemingly petering out for a routine home win, Lallana turned in Lovren's header with his knee to equalise for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
