Late Jake Taylor goal fires Reading through

Reading beat Scunthorpe United 1-0 in the second round of the League Cup courtesy of Jake Taylor's late goal.

Jake Taylor's late goal was enough for Reading to overcome Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park in the League Cup second round this evening.

Adam Federici was forced into the first save of the game on 10 minutes to deny Paddy Madden following a slow start to proceedings.

The Royals keeper had to be alert to deny Madden once more before the interval, with the striker's curling free kick seemingly heading straight into the top corner.

As the contest progressed both sides tried their luck from range, with Nick Blackman coming closest to making the breakthrough for the away side.

It looked as though extra time would be needed, but Taylor turned the ball over the line from a corner to win the game for Reading five minutes from time.
