Rochdale, Burton Albion finish level

Rochdale and Burton Albion play out a 1-1 draw at Spotland in League Two.

Promotion-chasing rivals Rochdale and Burton Albion have played out a 1-1 draw at Spotland.

The first chance of the game fell to Dale striker Scott Hogan, who managed to work space on the left-hand side of the box before firing a shot at goal that was saved by Rob Lainton.

Albion came close minutes later through Phil Edwards, but the defender's shot at a loose ball in the opposition box shaved the bar on its way over.

The Brewers took the lead on the 34-minute mark after Ian Sharps's header was not fully cleared, leaving Zeli Ismail to squeeze the ball in at the near post.

Matt Palmer had a penalty shout for the visitors before the interval, though the referee waved play on to the dismay of the midfielder, as the first half drew to a close.

Burton drew level after 67 minutes, as substitute George Donnelly put a hanging cross into the box before Lainton punched the effort behind him into his own net.

Both sides pushed for a winner, and Hogan very nearly found one for Rochdale late on, when he glanced Michael Rose's free kick towards goal, only for it to graze the bar once more and go over as the contest finished level.
