League Two roundup: Hartlepool score but lose

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's action from League Two, including another disappointing defeat for Hartlepool United.

Hartlepool United's disappointing start in League Two continued on Saturday as Colin Cooper's men lost 2-1 at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

Pools scored their first league goal in six games when James Poole found the net in stoppage time.

However, it meant little as Max Kretzschmar had earlier netted a brace for Wycombe on his full league debut.

The Monkey Hangers remain 23rd in the table, one place above Accrington Stanley, who lost 1-0 at Chesterfield. Tendayi Darkinwa scored the goal for the Spirites, who stay top.

Oxford United are two points back in second, having secured a 2-0 win at promotion rivals Burton Albion.

Alfie Potter and Danny Rose found the net for Oxford after Brewers defender Ian Sharps had been shown a straight red card late in the first half.

Prior to today, Southend United had won both of their home league games without conceding.

However, that run came to an emphatic end this afternoon as they were beaten 3-1 by Morecambe, with Andrew Fleming netting a brace.

Elsewhere, Jermain McGlashan also scored twice, including a last-minute equaliser, as Cheltenham Town held Portsmouth to a 2-2 draw at Whaddon Road.

Fleetwood Town hammered Torquay United 4-1, thanks to goals from Jamille Matt and Matty Blair and a double from Antoni Sarcevic.

Meanwhile, there were wins for Plymouth Argyle, AFC Wimbledon and Rochdale, who beat local rivals Bury despite playing for 62 minutes with 10 men.

Mansfield Town, Scunthorpe United and Exeter City all claimed respectable points on the road, drawing at Newport County, Northampton Town and Dagenham & Redbridge respectively.

Results in full: Burton Albion 0-2 Oxford Utd, Cheltenham 2-2 Portsmouth, Chesterfield 1-0 Accrington, Dag & Red 1-1 Exeter, Fleetwood Town 4-1 Torquay Utd, Hartlepool 1-2 Wycombe, Newport County 1-1 Mansfield, Northampton 1-1 Scunthorpe, Plymouth 1-0 Bristol Rovers, Rochdale 1-0 Bury, Southend 1-3 Morecambe, York City 0-2 AFC Wimbledon.
