Nwankwo Kanu confident of Nigeria progress at World Cup

Former Nigeria striker Nwankwo Kanu is confident that the team can get the point that they need against Argentina to reach the last 16 of the World Cup.

Former Nigeria striker Nwankwo Kanu has backed the team to get the point that they need to reach the second round of the World Cup.

The Africans must avoid defeat against Argentina on Wednesday in order to make it into the last 16 for the first time since 1998.

When asked if Nigeria are capable of taking a point from the much-fancied Argentines, Kanu told FIFA.com: "Yeah, I think so, because what has happened with the Nigerian team is that they keep getting better game after game.

"I believe when we play Argentina the confidence and the winning mentality beating Bosnia will bring will mean we will be able to do well against Argentina."

Kanu scored 12 goals in 87 games for Nigeria before retiring from international football in 2011.
