Argentine defender Cristian Gomez has died after collapsing on the pitch while playing for Primera B side Atletico Parana on Sunday.
Thirty minutes into the side's match against Boca Unidos, the 27-year-old fell to the ground and lost consciousness.
As soon as Gomez collapsed, a number of his teammates and opponents removed their shirts to fan him and also signalled to the bench for help.
"We tried to revive him and he died on the way to hospital," BBC Sport quotes Boca Unidos doctor Miguel Darre as saying.
Match supervisor Ramon Gomez added: "The doctors told us they couldn't resuscitate him. This is totally unexpected, unbelievable. He'd never had anything wrong with him."
The tragedy occurred less than two weeks after the death of 21-year-old footballer Emanuel Ortega, who died from head injuries after crashing into a concrete wall during a match.
