Manchester United are reportedly preparing to tie Scott McTominay down to a longer-term contract by triggering a clause to extend his current deal by a further 12 months.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to tie Scott McTominay down to a longer-term contract by triggering a clause to extend his current deal by a further 12 months.

The Scottish international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with West Ham United and Bayern Munich expressing interest in acquiring his services in recent times.

Despite coming close to being sold in the off-season, the 27-year-old's current deal with The Red Devils is only scheduled to expire next summer.

As reported by The Sun, McTominay has 'won over' the approval of manager Erik ten Hag and is now considered a crucial part of the Dutchman's future plans at the club.

The report adds that United are now believed to be eager to trigger a 12-month extension on his current deal, which will see him remain at the club until 2026.

Since making his debut for the club just as he turned 20 towards the end of the 2016-17 season, McTominay has gone on to make a total of 233 appearances for United.

This term, the Scot has made 18 Premier League appearances and scored five goals, including braces against both Chelsea and Brentford.

McTominay has played under six managers at Old Trafford, including interim coaches Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick, as well as Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag.
