Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag does not believe that he will lose his job at Old Trafford despite the team's disastrous start to the 2023-24 campaign.

The Red Devils have lost six of their 10 matches in all competitions, including their opening two fixtures in the group stage of the Champions League.

Man United led 2-1 against Galatasaray in Europe on Tuesday evening before suffering a 3-2 defeat, with goalkeeper Andre Onana's performance again called into question.

Ten Hag was asked about his future after the latest defeat, and the Dutchman reiterated the importance of sticking together during a hugely testing period.

"Last season: brilliant, terrific, more than we could expect but also when we went into this project we knew there would be common gaps and in this moment we are in a very difficult period, as everyone can see," the Manchester Evening News quotes Ten Hag as saying.

"But we come out together, we are fighting together, we are sticking together, behind each other, it's me, the directors, the team, all together, we will fight and this is not us. We know we have to do better and in togetherness we will come out.

"There are no excuses. Maybe we have a little unbalance [on the] left side but we can't make the errors we are making. We have to do better, we have to win our games.

'There were the same mistakes, we could say, but I have seen a team that was really connected, I have seen a team with a great spirit and they played in stages of the game fantastic, scored good goals, twice up and totally in control of the game.

"But all of a sudden we make a mistake, an error and football is a game of mistakes but, of course, I have to give coaching, instructions, how we deal with these occasions and such situations. But it happens and we got punished for it, clear."

Rasmus Hojlund scored twice for Man United during an impressive performance, but the Denmark international's goals were not enough to secure any points for the Red Devils on Tuesday night.

The forward sent the hosts 2-1 ahead in the 67th minute, but Kerem Akturkoglu levelled the scores four minutes later, before Mauro Icardi won it in the 81st minute, shortly after missing a penalty.

Man United will now switch their attention back to the Premier League, preparing to welcome Brentford to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The 20-time English champions have already made their worst start to a league campaign for 34 years, having lost four of their opening seven matches of the season.

Ten Hag has been in charge of the Red Devils since last summer, boasting a record of 45 wins, nine draws and 19 matches from his 72 games at the helm.
