Alan Shearer hails "magnificent" Wigan Athletic for FA Cup win over Man City

Alan Shearer hails "magnificent" Wigan Athletic after the team stun Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Alan Shearer has given high praise to Wigan Athletic for causing a shock upset in the FA Cup by ousting Manchester City in the fifth round.

Pep Guardiola's side can no longer win the quadruple this season due to a 1-0 defeat to the Latics at the DW Stadium on Monday night.

Will Grigg's 79th-minute goal was the difference as City had to play 45 minutes with 10 men due to Fabian Delph's controversial sending-off.

After the final whistle, Shearer told BBC Sport: "Magnificent from Wigan. The effort, the commitment, last ditch effort to block shots. City dominated possession, but rarely challenged the keeper. What an unbelievable performance and result."

Wigan will take on Southampton in the quarter-finals of the clash.
