Vincent Kompany delighted with Manchester City display

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes that his side have a "good chance" of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals following their 3-1 win in Kiev.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has acknowledged that his side have given themselves a "good chance" of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Goals from Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Yaya Toure helped City to a 3-1 victory over Dynamo Kiev in the first leg of their last-16 clash this evening, putting them in complete control of the tie at the halfway stage.

City will now welcome Kiev back to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg on March 15, and Kompany is confident of their chances.

"Exceptional result away from home, we couldn't have hoped for better. The performance was good, with a lot of high pressing, a lot of chances - 3-1 is a good result and we are happy with it. We're just not going to get carried away," he told BT Sport.

"We are going into the second leg with a fairly good chance to go through, which has not been the case before. We looked like a team that was hungry for success tonight.

"I feel like I am contradicting myself a little after the FA Cup but I feel like every cup is a priority. Every game is a priority. It is not easy to predict which competition you will do well in."

Joe Hart was called upon to make a crucial save with the score at 2-1 in the second half, and Kompany also reserved special praise for the England number one.

"Joe Hart is an unbelievable keeper. When he was called upon he did it well," he added.

City will now turn their attentions to the League Cup final, with a Wembley showdown against Liverpool coming up on Sunday.
