Jamie Redknapp: 'Liverpool face rebuilding job'

Former midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that Liverpool will struggle to deal with the exit of Steven Gerrard.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that the club will struggle to deal with the departure of Steven Gerrard.

The Reds captain played his last game at Anfield on Saturday as he prepares to move to the Los Angeles Galaxy at the end of the season, with Liverpool falling to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.

Redknapp says that Liverpool must now adopt a big rebuilding project in the wake of the 34-year-old's exit.

"It's going to be hard for the Liverpool players now he's gone," he told Sky Sports News.

"Gerrard has led this club for so long. You could sense it was hard for them as a team today; they were waiting for him to do something because they've got so much respect for him.

"Life is going to change for everybody at this club and now they've got to try and find the next Steven Gerrard. It's not going to be easy. People like him don't come along every day of the week; they come along once in a generation if you're lucky."

Gerrard's final Liverpool game will be at Stoke City next weekend.
