Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Liverpool return to Premier League action at Villa Park on Saturday following a bonkers 5-5 draw with Arsenal in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp's side came from 3-1, 4-2 and 5-4 down to rescue a penalty shootout through Divock Origi's 94th-minute equaliser, before Curtis Jones scored the winning spot kick to ensure that the hosts came out on top in a chaotic classic at Anfield.

Things have been more routine in the league so far this term with Liverpool dropping just two points from the 30 on offer so far, and they travel to the Midlands looking to keep at least a six-point lead over Manchester City ahead of next weekend's tantalising showdown between the top two.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's game.

Mohamed Salah

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: November 2 (vs. Aston Villa)

Salah was forced off towards the latter stages of the win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, but he was back in training by Monday and Klopp has insisted that he is "fine". The Egyptian winger sat out Wednesday's EFL Cup thriller, but that was more due to rotation than injury.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: November 23 (vs. Crystal Palace)

Xherdan Shaqiri's calf injury has kept him sidelined for longer than was first expected, and Klopp revealed that it could be another three weeks - after the international break - until he returns.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Joel Matip has been struggling with a knee injury of late and, while the problem was initially thought to be only a minor one, the latest reports suggest that he could be out until December, or at least until after the international break.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Dead leg
Possible return date: November 2 (vs. Aston Villa)

Like Salah, Virgil van Dijk picked up a knock against Spurs and was subsequently rested in midweek. The Dutch defender would probably have been fit if needed, though, and is expected to have fully recovered from his dead leg in time for Saturday.

Naby Keita

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Naby Keita seemed to tweak a muscle while slipping during Wednesday's match, forcing his withdrawal after 55 minutes. Klopp is hopeful that the injury is not serious, but Keita is unlikely to feature on Saturday.

Nathaniel Clyne

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Nathaniel Clyne has missed the entire season so far after suffering ACL damage in the summer, and he is still some way from returning to full fitness.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this encounter.
