Brendan Rodgers: 'Team meeting helped us'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says that a team meeting held before their FA Cup match with Blackburn Rovers helped to mastermind their win over the Championship side.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the team held a meeting ahead of their FA Cup tie with Blackburn Rovers.

The Reds bounced back from their 4-1 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday by seeing off Rovers in their quarter-final replay at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening.

Rodgers says that the team meeting, which was held on Sunday in the aftermath of the Arsenal loss, helped to fashion the cup win over Rovers.

"There was a lot made of that. I am a coach who speaks openly with players. Part of the coaching philosophy for me is about reviewing and reflecting performance," Clubcall.com quotes him as saying.

"Because we lost a couple of games, a lot was made of that meeting but that review is very important for how we want to work - unless you review and analyse how can you be better?

"I think you see the outcome. We made points on how we improve our performance level, we agreed on it and committed to it and you saw the shape of the team. We reintroduced 4-3-3 and got into the final third very well."

Liverpool face Newcastle United on Monday.
