Leicester City complete £1m Jamie Vardy deal

Leicester complete the signing of Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood Town in the first £1m transfer for a non-league player.

Leicester City have completed the signing of Fleetwood Town forward Jamie Vardy for a fee of £1m.

The 25-year-old striker is the first player in the history of non-league football to demand a seven-figure fee.

He was prolific for Town last season, scoring 34 goals as they secured the Blue Square Premier title and promotion to the football league.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson said: "There were a number of clubs vying to secure Jamie's signature, so it's very pleasing that we have been able to bring him to Leicester City. He will definitely help to take us forward.

"He has built an excellent reputation for himself through the goals he has scored at non-league level and, having studied his progress closely for some time, I have no doubt he will successfully make the step up to the Championship."

Vardy's arrival is Pearson's third recruit since the end of the season after Manchester United duo Ritchie De Laet and Matty James agreed to join earlier this week.
