Coventry City lifted themselves off the bottom of the Championship table with a late 2-1 win over Leeds at the Ricoh Arena tonight.
Leeds came into the match with the strongest away attack in the division, while Coventry were looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat in the league.
However, it was the Sky Blues who looked like a team pushing for promotion early on, barely letting Leeds have a sniff.
They were rewarded for this hard work in the 29th minute when Danny Pugh brought down Alex Nimely inside the box.
The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Gary McSheffrey stepped up to slot the ball home against his former club to give Coventry the lead.
City continued to be on top after the goal but were let down by bad defending, on which Ross McCormack capitalised to give Leeds an equaliser.
The game became more even as it went on, with both sides having rare sightings of goal to try to get a winner, but it looked like drifting out to be a draw until the 90th minute.
Once again, Nimely was brought down in the box and McSheffrey stepped up. The result was the same as the ex-Leeds man gave his side a priceless late win.
