Almeria, Getafe tied at 1-1 after first-leg draw in the Copa del Rey

Almeria and Getafe share a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their last-16 Copa del Rey tie, as midfielder Verza scores both an own goal and a penalty in the Spanish tournament.

Almeria and Getafe will go into the second leg of their last-16 Copa del Rey tie on level terms, having played out a 1-1 draw at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos this evening.

Getafe's Alvaro Vazquez appeared threatening in the opening minutes as he carved out a through-ball for Fredy Hinestroza, who shot wide from a tight angle.

The striker came close again only minutes later when he shot wide of the post despite being only a few yards out from goal, before Almeria's Teerasil Dangda was also wasteful with a header.

The visiting side took the lead in the 21st minute when Verza cheaply put into his own net to leave his side a goal down going into the interval.

The midfielder was given the chance to redeem himself after the break, though, as he finished from the spot to make it 1-1 after Emiliano Velazquez brought down Dani Romera in the area.

Verza might have grabbed all three points on a bizarre night for the Spaniard when he saw his late, long-distance drive kept out of the bottom corner by Jordi Codina.
