St Mirren win seven-goal encounter

St Mirren win by the odd goal in seven from their trip to Dundee United.

St Mirren overturned a 2-1 half-time deficit to claim maximum points from their trip to Dundee United this afternoon.

Having dominated large parts of the opening exchanges, visiting St Mirren broke the deadlock with 16 minutes gone when Paul Dummett turned in a cross from Gary Teale.

However, with two minutes of the half remaining Dummett brought down Jon Daly inside the area and the United striker got up to convert the resultant penalty.

The home team had not finished there though and took the lead into the break when Stuart Armstrong found the net from long range with one minute of stoppage time played.

St Mirren were not behind for long though as Steven Thomson sent the ball into the bottom left corner from eight yards out in the 50th minute.

The visitors then claimed the lead for a second time with 65 minutes gone when Marc McAusland volleyed in another cross from former Derby County winger from Teale.

The situation deteriorated further for United three minutes later as Brian McLean was shown a red card for a foul that he committed on Lewis Guy.

Teale claimed his third assist of the match 13 minutes from time as St Mirren made sure of the points when David van Zanten sent the ball skidding into the goal from inside area.

Full-back Barry Douglas pulled a goal back for United in stoppage time, but his effort proved to be no more than a consolation.
