As many as five clubs in the Premier League are allegedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for a wide array of clubs ahead of the summer window.

While the versatile academy graduate has had his progress at Stamford Bridge impacted through injury, faith has been placed in him by the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

Although the 27-year-old cannot claim to be a first-choice pick when every player is fit, he has still made 19 starts and seven substitute outings in all competitions this campaign.

As well as being used in his recognised central midfield role, Loftus-Cheek has regularly deputised at right wing-back when Reece James has been sidelined through injury.

That has ensured that the England international has remained as a valuable squad member, but there is uncertainty over his long-term future.

With over £600m being spent across two transfer windows, Chelsea are in a position where they must make player sales later in 2023, particularly when further additions are expected to come through the door.

Despite a number of players already being identified as potential departures, parting ways with at least one academy graduate will help Chelsea provide a boost to their situation with FFP.

According to Football Insider, Loftus-Cheek is viewed as a player who could leave the West Londoners.

At a time when he has less than 16 months remaining on his contract, as many as five clubs in the Premier League are said to be monitoring the situation.

The report adds that AC Milan remain as long-term admirers of Loftus-Cheek, while Roma would likely be interested with Jose Mourinho familiar with the player from his time with Chelsea.

Up to now, Loftus-Cheek has spent his entire professional career representing clubs situated in London, his loan spells away from Chelsea coming at Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Loftus-Cheek may have to consider breaking that streak to secure first-team football elsewhere in 2023-24 unless he emerges as a standout player during the closing months of this season.

That said, Chelsea also possess the option to extend his terms by a further 12 months if they see value in keeping him at the club.
