Head coach Thomas Tuchel says that Mason Mount will "push" to recover from an ankle injury in time for the EFL Cup final on February 27.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has acknowledged that Mason Mount is a major fitness doubt for the EFL Cup final with Liverpool.

During Saturday's Club World Cup final with Palmeiras, the midfielder sustained an ankle injury, forcing his withdrawal later in the first half.

Reports have suggested that the 23-year-old faces a race against time to make the Wembley Stadium showpiece on February 27, but Tuchel has revealed that the England international will push to recover in time for that game.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Tuchel said: "We will push for the League Cup final. He has injured ligaments. In the very first minute of the final.

"Unfortunately, the Champions League is very close, but we will try hard for the League Cup final."

As it stands, Mount will miss Saturday's Premier League fixture at Crystal Palace and the game with Lille in the Champions League on February 22.
