Rafael Benitez says that he may play David Luiz in the left-back role against Rubin Kazan.

Chelsea's interim manager Rafael Benitez has admitted that he would consider playing David Luiz at left-back during tomorrow's Europa League encounter against Rubin Kazan.

The Blues will be without their two recognised left-backs Ashley Cole and Ryan Bertrand because of injury and illness respectively.

That has resulted in reports that Paulo Ferreira or youngster Nathan Ake could feature, but Benitez has also thrown centre-back Luiz's name into contention.

"David Luiz has also played as a left full-back before so maybe he can be an option," he told reporters. "I have an idea but we will train today, see how everything is, and after we will decide.

"I don't think it would be a big problem for Ake if he has to play there. He has played for us and trained with us."

Chelsea won the first leg against Rubin 3-1.
