Half-Time Report: Virgil van Dijk gives Celtic slender lead at break

Virgil van Dijk scores a 42nd-minute header to give Celtic a 1-0 half-time lead at Ross County.

Virgil van Dijk's 42nd-minute header separates the sides as Celtic lead Ross County 1-0 at the break in their Scottish Premiership clash.

Scott Brown almost gave the away side the lead in fortuitous circumstances after 11 minutes, but his shot deflected just wide of the near post with Mark Brown stranded.

Celtic had a good opportunity to open the scoring after 20 minutes, but from Charlie Mulgrew's deep free kick, Van Dijk sent his free header wide of the far post from eight yards.

County's best chance of the half fell to Brian McLean, but the centre-back headed over from six yards out.

The miss proved costly, as Van Dijk gave the Scottish Premiership champions the lead on 42 minutes with a perfectly guided header from Emilio Izaguirre's deep cross from the left byline.
