Brisbane Roar close gap on leaders

Brisbane Roar record a 3-1 win over Melbourne City to move within two points of A-League leaders Western Sydney Wanderers.

A third successive A-League victory this morning has seen the Brisbane Roar close the gap on leaders Western Sydney Wanderers to two points.

The 3-1 win, which came at the expense of Melbourne City at the Suncorp Stadium, was achieved thanks to an own goal from Patrick Kisnorbo and further strikes courtesy of Brandon Borrello and Henrique.

Goalscoring opportunities were few and far between prior to the deadlock being broken in the 31st minute.

A cross from vice-captain Shane Stefanutto did not appear to be causing many problems, only for former Leicester City and Leeds United defender Kisnorbo to turn the ball into his own net.

The lead was then doubled five minutes before the break when Dimitri Petratos's pass was driven in by Borrello.

Bruno Fornaroli reduced the arrears at the start of the second half, but the points were made safe in stoppage time as Henrique found the back of the net from 55 yards out after City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen had ventured forward for a corner.
