Paul Clement eager to rebuild Renato Sanches confidence

Swansea City boss Paul Clement believes that Renato Sanches can rebuild his confidence and his future following a difficult 12 months at Bayern Munich.

Swansea City manager Paul Clement has pledged to help Renato Sanches rebuild his confidence following a difficult 12 months at Bayern Munich.

The 20-year-old was named the best young player at Euro 2016 after helping Portugal to the trophy last summer, earning a big-money move from Benfica.

However, Sanches made just six Bundesliga starts during his time in Germany and was made available for loan by Carlo Ancelotti, the Swans securing the youngster's services in the summer.

Despite an underwhelming debut by Sanches in Swansea's 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United, Clement is adamant that the Portuguese starlet can rebuild his future at the Liberty Stadium.

Clement is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I showed a lot of confidence in bringing him here, he knows that. He needs to play games. He's got to work through this period.

"It's been a difficult year for him because he moved from Benfica to Bayern Munich with a big price-tag put on him and big expectation from around Europe and the world after what he did at the Euros. "It didn't work out for the club or him, but he has a future at Bayern.

"He can rebuild that future by coming here and playing regularly and rebuilding that confidence. We all believe in him, we think we've got a great young talent here and maybe it's going to take a little bit of time."

Sanches is in line to return to the starting lineup this weekend as Swansea take on Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.
