Diego Simeone: 'Blame me for Celta Vigo defeat'

Diego Simeone says that he is entirely to blame for Atletico Madrid's 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo, not striker Fernando Torres.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has insisted that he should take the blame for his side's loss at Celta Vigo on Sunday, not Fernando Torres.

The striker was taken off at the break after a quiet first half, before goals from Nolito and Fabian Orellana condemned Atleti to a 2-0 defeat.

Simeone says that the team's poor display was entirely of his own making, due to mistakes with his team selection and tactics.

"In the first half, I chose a bad formation. I lost 45 minutes. I chose badly," Goal.com quotes him as saying.

"It's not Fernando's fault that he had to go off but we weren't able to balance the team. We started the second half better. Then there was the episode of the penalty and the second goal. Celta played very well.

"We carry on competing and now we think of next Saturday."

Atletico return to action against Almeria next weekend.
