Paul Lambert: 'Aston Villa deserved victory against Bournemouth'

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert insists that his players were worthy winners following their 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in the FA Cup.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has insisted that his side deserved their 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Villans edged into the last 16 of the competition on Sunday as they saw off the Championship outfit at Villa Park.

Following a difficult first half of the season for his players, Lambert is pleased to see them progress.

"We needed to try to get through," he told BBC Sport. "After seeing yesterday's results, we had nothing to lose. All credit to the team. I thought we deserved the win.

"The supporters went through a hard time just like the players. The win today will certainly help us. We took a lot of knocks but all credit to the lads, they never let their heads go down, even in training."

Villa are back in Premier League action next Sunday when they travel to Arsenal.
