Villarreal: 'Arsenal could sign Gabriel Paulista'

Villarreal boss Marcelino admits that the club would accept a bid from Arsenal for Gabriel Paulista if it makes financial sense to do so.

Villarreal coach Marcelino has conceded that he will sell Gabriel Paulista to Arsenal under the right circumstances.

Speculation is rife that the Gunners are primed to bolster their injury-hit defence with a move for the 24-year-old centre-back this month.

"I hadn't considered selling Gabriel, it's bad news from a sporting point of view," Marcelino told El Larguero.

"If both Gabriel and the club believe that his sale to Arsenal is the best for all parties, we will accept."

The prospective deal is said to hinge on Paulista being granted a work permit, although the Brazilian does not meet any of the criteria necessary to gain international clearance.
