Real Madrid reportedly identify Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus as a potential replacement for Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid have reportedly identified Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus as a replacement for Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman is the current Ballon d'Or holder after enjoying a successful 2021-22 campaign, where he scored 44 goals in 46 games, helping his side win the La Liga title and the Champions League.

Although he has still managed to rack up 19 goals in 29 appearances this term, Benzema's season has been hampered by injury.

The 35-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, but Los Blancos are expected to agree a new one-year extension.

However, with Benzema now in the latter stages of his career, Real Madrid are keen to strengthen their forward line in the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have identified Jesus as a possible long-term successor to Benzema.

Real Madrid also believe that Jesus would provide the club with strength in depth prior to Benzema's potential departure in 2024.

The report claims that Los Blancos are admirers of the Brazilian's versatility, having previously demonstrated that he is comfortable playing through the middle and out wide.

Real Madrid have spaces open for non-EU players after gaining citizenship for Vinicius Jr, Eder Militao and Rodrygo.

The reigning European champions may find it difficult to prise Jesus away from Arsenal, who will be desperate to retain his services.

The 25-year-old scored 95 goals and provided 46 assists across 236 appearances for Manchester City, before he moved to North London last summer.

Jesus quickly established himself as a key player in the Arsenal side, registering five goals and seven assists in 23 matches.

However, he picked up a knee injury at the 2022 World Cup, which has kept him sidelined for the majority of 2023.

Jesus recently returned to make substitute appearances in commanding victories over Fulham and Crystal Palace, representing a significant boost to Arsenal's title hopes.

Arsenal occupy top spot in the Premier League table, and they currently enjoy a healthy eight-point cushion over second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
