Arsene Wenger: 'I will leave Arsenal in good shape for my successor'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that he wants to leave the club in good shape for his successor.

Arsene Wenger has claimed that he hopes to leave Arsenal in good shape for his successor when the time comes for him to depart the Premier League club.

The Frenchman became Europe's longest-serving manager on Sunday following Ronnie McFall's departure from Portadown.

Should Wenger still be in charge of the Gunners on September 22, he will be celebrating 20 years as manager of the North London outfit.

Former Arsenal star Dennis Bergkamp is the bookmakers' favourite to replace the French boss, but Wenger is not worried about his future.

"I do my job and some day somebody will replace me, that's part of life," Wenger told reporters in Monday's press conference. "As long as you work somewhere you give your best.

"That's what I try to do - give my best to leave this club in the shape that the guy coming after me will have a good potential to work."

Arsenal are currently third in the league table, eight points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
