Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben White are left out of Gareth Southgate's latest England squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, but Ivan Toney is recalled.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben White have both left out of Gareth Southgate's latest England squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, but Ivan Toney has been recalled.

The Three Lions begin their bid to qualify for next year's tournament when they tackle Italy and Ukraine in Group C later this month, facing the Azzurri on March 23 before taking on Ukraine three days later.

Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold was on the plane for the World Cup due to Reece James's injury, but he has now been cut from the ranks amid another season of heavy criticism.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's White - who has been a consistent performer for the Gunners this term - withdrew from the World Cup for personal reasons but has starred in the Gunners' surge to the top of the Premier League table.

Nevertheless, Southgate has once again overlooked White for selection, as Chelsea duo James and Ben Chilwell represent two of four returning players following their recoveries from injury.

Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi is also back in the fold, taking the place of Everton's Conor Coady, who loses his spot after also being demoted to the Everton bench in recent weeks.

Further forward, Brentford talisman Toney, who was snubbed for a World Cup call-up, is included in place of Callum Wilson, while there is no place for Raheem Sterling either following a fresh hamstring issue for the Chelsea man.

Toney's inclusion comes despite the striker's admission that he breached FA betting rules, having originally been hit with as many as 262 charges, but Southgate has insisted that there is no reason why Toney should not be handed his opportunity.

"There hasn't been a trial yet or any judgement so I don't know on what basis we wouldn't pick him really. Ivan has been consistent throughout the season," Southgate told the media at Tuesday's press conference.

"He is playing really well. I like his presence in games. I saw his game against Arsenal where he was outstanding and he deserves his opportunity."

Elsewhere, James Maddison keeps his spot in the setup, while Kalvin Phillips has also retained the faith of Southgate, despite his lack of action for Manchester City in the 2022-23 season.

Harry Maguire, as expected, is included ahead of AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori amid his bit-part role for Manchester United in the current campaign, as Tyrone Mings also misses out again.
