Arsenal vs. Liverpool Christmas Eve date in doubt

Plans to hold Arsenal's Premier League match with Liverpool on Christmas Eve could reportedly be scuppered by a lack of stewards willing to commit to the fixture.

Arsenal's Premier League fixture with Liverpool which has been proposed for Christmas Eve is reportedly in doubt due to a lack of stewards.

The plans to hold the fixture on December 24 have already been met with stiff opposition by fans, with the tie originally scheduled for December 23.

Should the match take place on Christmas Eve then it would be the first top-flight game on that date since 1995, when Leeds United took on fierce rivals Manchester United.

Liverpool believe that the date would prevent supporters from travelling down to London for the game, although it could be a lack of stewards that scuppers the plan for the controversial scheduling.

The Telegraph reports that Arsenal stewards are reluctant to come forward for the fixture, although talks are still ongoing between Arsenal, Islington Council, the Metropolitan Police and Liverpool.

A lack of stewards could mean that Arsenal are unable to earn a safety certificate from the local council for the match.
