Steven Gerrard blasts Howard Webb

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard criticises referee Howard Webb after the official failed to award the Reds a second penalty.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has blasted Howard Webb after the referee failed to award the Reds a "stonewall penalty" as they crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal and were denied a spot kick when Luis Suarez was bundled over by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo: "In my opinion it was a stonewall penalty. It was even more blatant than the penalty which was awarded. The referee was very close to the incident. It's one you expect to get.

"Howard Webb is a top referee and I'm sure he will have a look at it himself. He obviously did not think it was a foul, but I am disappointed with the decision.

"It was a big decision that didn't go our way. That might have been the goal which would have given us a replay."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was also critical of Webb's decision after the game.
