FA, UEFA agree date for Hull City-Arsenal replay

The FA reaches a compromise with UEFA over a date for the FA Cup replay between Hull City and Arsenal.

The Football Association has reached agreement with UEFA over the date for the FA Cup fifth-round replay between Hull City and Arsenal.

The Championship side will welcome Arsene Wenger's cup holders to the KC Stadium on Tuesday, March 8 to settle the tie following their goalless draw at the Emirates last weekend.

Arsenal's commitments in the Champions League, combined with a midweek round of Premier League fixtures next week, meant that March 8 was the only reasonable date for the replay, although UEFA rules prevent top-level clashes from being scheduled at the same time as Champions League matches.

UEFA had requested a 5.45pm kickoff for the replay in order to avoid the match being played at the same time as games involving Real Madrid, Roma and Wolfsburg, but the FA held firm and eventually a compromise of a 7pm kickoff was agreed.

The move means that only half an hour of the FA Cup game's second half will compete with the Champions League, unless the tie is taken into extra time and penalties.

"In-depth and exhaustive discussions have taken place over the last 72 hours with all associated parties to determine the scheduling of this fixture and The FA recognises that this is not an ideal solution for everyone," a statement from the FA read.

"However, it does strengthen the case for footballing bodies to work closely together in a positive, collaborative way to resolve the overcrowded and untenable fixture schedule."

Arsenal are bidding to become the first side ever to win the FA Cup in three consecutive seasons.
