Kei Nishikori has booked his spot in the second round of Wimbledon with a 6-2 6-4 6-3 victory over Matthew Ebden in London.
Nishikori took control of the first set at 1-1, securing back-to-back breaks before holding to move 5-1 ahead. Ebden did manage to hold his next service game, but Nishikori served it out to take the opening set.
Ebden found some rhythm in the second set as the Australian started to dominate from the baseline, but a break of serve at 2-2 allowed Nishikori to claim it 6-4.
A total of four breaks occurred in the third and what proved to be final set, but three for Nishikori allowed the 23-year-old to book a spot in the second round of the competition.
