British number one Heather Watson backtracks on her claim that she would be taking a break from tennis following her defeat at the Miami Masters.

British number one Heather Watson has backtracked on her announcement that she was ready to take a break from tennis following her defeat at the Miami Masters.

The 20-year-old said that she was feeling "burnt out" after her first-round loss to Ayumi Morita.

However, Watson has now claimed that her comments were likely to have been misinterpreted.

"I'm going to carry on with my schedule," the world number 39 told BBC Sport.

"I think after my match I just wasn't thinking straight and said things that could be interpreted in the wrong way. When I said I was burnt out and wanted to take a break, I meant I wanted to go home to Guernsey for a few days.

"I haven't been home to Guernsey since I left in December. I basically just want to put my racquet down for three or four days, have a rest and see my friends and family, as I haven't done that this year yet."

Watson's next event will be the WTA tournament in Charleston which starts on April 1.
