Novak Djokovic dumps Rafael Nadal out of Monte Carlo Masters

Novak Djokovic beats Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters.

Novak Djokovic extended his unbeaten run to 16 wins with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Rafael Nadal in the semi-final of the Monte Carlo Masters, and will now face Tomas Berdych in tomorrow's final.

Djokovic, who has lost only twice all season, is looking to become the first player to win the first three Masters titles of the year.

Nadal broke in the opening game, but his opponent broke back in the fourth after a stunning lob set up the break point, which was comfortably put away by the Serbian.

A careless service game from 14-time Grand Slam champion Nadal allowed Djokovic to go 5-3 ahead, and he held his serve with aplomb to take the first set.

The Nadal serve was under constant assault from the world number one at the start of the second set, but the Spaniard dug in well to hold on.

However, Djokovic slowly ground down his opponent, breaking in a 12-minute seventh game of the second set.

From there, Djokovic did not look back and he wrapped up the victory with a ferocious cross-court backhand winner.
