Roger Federer secures French Open progress

Roger Federer reaches round three of the French Open with a 6-2 7-6[1] 6-3 win over Marcel Granollers.

Roger Federer has secured a place in round three of the French Open by beating Marcel Granollers in straight sets.

The second seed will now face either Marcos Baghdatis or Damir Dzumhur for a spot in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

Federer came flying out of the traps in the opening set, breaking the Spaniard early on before clinching it 6-2 inside half an hour.

The second set had to be settled via a tie-break after both men had dropped serve, but it was former champion Federer who came through 7-1 as he overwhelmed Granollers with a dominant performance.

With the third round now firmly in his sights, the 17-time Grand Slam winner recovered from an early break to seal a 6-2 7-6[1] 6-3 triumph.
