Wales warned over training squad breach

Wales are given an official warning by World Rugby for allowing players outside of their 31-man squad to take part in World Cup training.

Wales have been given an official warning from World Rugby for including too many players in a World Cup training session.

Tournament rules stipulate that players who did not make the final 31-man squad are not allowed to take part in sessions, but a group did train with Wales at Sunbury on Wednesday as Warren Gatland's side continue their preparations for Saturday's game against England.

The sport's governing body has decided against handing out a fine to the Welsh Rugby Union, but they have been reminded of the rules as they continue their Pool A campaign.

"While World Rugby is satisfied that no deliberate breach was intended, an official warning has been issued to the WRU," a World Rugby statement revealed.

"All participating teams have been informed that additional players from the extended squad, including potential injury replacements, may not be included in any training sessions."

Wales started the tournament with a comfortable 54-9 win over Uruguay on Sunday.
