Scotland number eight Johnnie Beattie admits "surprise" at his inclusion in Saturday's Six Nations opener against England.

Scotland number eight Johnnie Beattie has admitted his "surprise" at being named in the team to face England in their Six Nations opener on Saturday.

The 27-year-old, who has impressed for Montpellier this season, will make his first appearance since 2011 in the clash at Twickenham.

"I had pretty much two years of not playing at all. When you're out of things and out of sight, you never know what people are thinking. To get the call was a massive surprise and massively pleasing," he told BBC Sport.

Beattie will win his 17th cap at the weekend.
