Brian Smith unsurprised by Wakefield Trinity Wildcats defeat

Incoming Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach Brian Smith admits that the team's 58-26 defeat to Leeds Rhinos was to be expected.

Incoming Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach Brian Smith has admitted that he was not surprised by the team's defeat to Leeds Rhinos in Super League.

The Wildcats extended their losing streak in the competition to 14 matches on Sunday thanks to a 58-26 reverse at Belle Vue.

Smith will take charge of the side for the first time next weekend against Salford Red Devils.

"It was true to form for Wakefield in the last two or three months. It wasn't too much different to what was expected," the Australian is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"There's a lot of work to be done but there's some things I can see that are easy to identify, not so hard to practice and most times are things you can get a pretty quick result from.

"It's still very difficult to get right in the game under pressure and fatigue and that's why footy, or rugby as I should learn to say again, is a tough game for tough people."

Wakefield have won two of their 16 matches in Super League so far this season.
