Sporting Lisbon have reportedly told West Ham United that they may be willing to sell midfielder William Carvalho in January.
During the final month of the summer transfer window, West Ham were strongly linked with the Portuguese international, only for negotiations to descend into farce as both clubs disputed claims over the level of the Premier League side's interest.
However, according to The Express, Sporting have informed the Hammers that they would be prepared to accept an offer in the region of £28m at the start of 2018.
When previous speculation emerged, it was claimed that the 25-year-old had a release clause of £40m inserted into his contract, which does not expire until 2020, but it appears that Sporting may be willing to let one of their star men leave for a lower fee.
Carvalho has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, including three outings in the Champions League, but the player is ready for a new challenge.
New West Ham boss David Moyes will be given funds to improve his squad in January, with the East London outfit currently sitting in the Premier League relegation zone.
