James Tomkins believes that West Ham United can build on their 10th-place finish in the 2013-14 Premier League season.

West Ham United defender James Tomkins believes that the club can build on their 10th-place finish in the upcoming 2013-14 campaign.

The Hammers managed to complete last season in the top half of the Premier League table in their first year returning to the top flight from the Championship.

"As a club, we had a good year last season and obviously we hope to improve, that's what we want to do as players," Tomkins told the club's official website.

"Tenth was good for us having been promoted from the Championship and hopefully we can build on that this year."

West Ham kick off their season at home to Cardiff City on August 17.
