Sam Allardyce: 'We gifted Manchester City two goals'

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce criticises his side for "gifting" Manchester City their goals in the Hammers' 2-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has bemoaned his side's defending after they succumbed to a 2-0 Premier League defeat away at Manchester City on Sunday.

James Collins sliced over his own goalkeeper and in off the bar from 18 yards out to gift City their first goal just after the quarter-hour mark, while Sergio Aguero struck his side's second in the 36th minute.

Allardyce told BBC Sport: "We gifted them two goals. It was pretty disappointing on the basis of how we conceded them. The freak own goal got them on the way and then it was a poor piece of possession in their half.

"If you are going to get back in the game you are going to have to show the resilience we did in the second half and Enner Valencia toe-poked wide and Kevin Nolan had a shot saved.

"You can't make the mistakes we made and expect to get anything out of the game. We created our two best chances late on but are not as clinical as we used to be."

West Ham sit 10th in the Premier League table following their defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
