Billy McKinlay "surprised, disappointed" by Watford dismissal

Billy McKinlay says that he was "disappointed" to be sacked as Watford manager just eight days after taking the helm at the Championship outfit.

Billy McKinlay has said that he was "disappointed" by his Watford dismissal after only eight days in charge.

The 45-year-old admitted that he was "surprised" to be announced as Hornets boss following Oscar Garcia's resignation, but was equally shocked by his sacking.

"I was disappointed," McKinlay told Sky Sports. "I was surprised to be appointed in the first place, but for it to only last as short as it did was a surprise to say the least."

McKinlay left his post as Northern Ireland assistant manager to take up the role at Vicarage Road.
