Sydney FC strike late to beat rivals Western Sydney Wanderers

A late strike from Milos Ninkovic earns Sydney FC a dramatic 1-0 triumph over rivals Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League.

Milos Ninkovic has netted two minutes from time to earn Sydney FC a 1-0 victory at home to fierce rivals Western Sydney Wanderers.

Sydney almost edged in front as early as the sixth minute but Ninkovic could only fire into the side-netting, before Matthew Jurman wasted a headed chance at the back post.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, Rhyan Grant sent an effort wide after linking up with Filip Holosko, but shortly after the restart, Wanderers nearly opened the scoring against the run of play when Dario Vidosic's strike was parried by Vedran Janjetovic.

Chances were few and far between during the final quarter of the contest, but two minutes from time, Ninkovic controlled a pass from Brandon O'Neill before slotting the ball into the net.

The result has ensured that Sydney will hold a one-point advantage at the top of the standings after week three of the A-League.
