Swindon 'poised' to sign Michael Smith from Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell reveals that striker Michael Smith is on the verge of joining Swindon Town permanently.

Swindon Town are closing in on the permanent signing Michael Smith from Charlton Athletic, Addicks boss Chris Powell has revealed.

Powell, who was speaking after his side's 3-0 victory over Oxford United in the third round of the FA Cup, said that he expected a move to be completed shortly.

According to BBC Wiltshire, 22-year-old Smith was at Swindon's County Ground last night holding talks with the club.

He spent the first half of this season on loan at League Two side AFC Wimbledon, scoring nine goals in 23 league games.
