Wigan Athletic have given Swansea City permission to speak to assistant Graeme Jones over the managerial vacancy at the Liberty Stadium.
The Welsh club are currently looking for a new boss following the departure of Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool.
"We shall now refocus and quickly start the process of finding his replacement to continue the great work Brendan has carried out at this football club," said Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.
Jones, 42, is now expected to hold talks with the club in the coming days.
Swansea were thought to have targeted Jones in 2010 before appointing Rodgers.
