Dwight Tiendalli hopes for Netherlands recognition

Swansea City full-back Dwight Tiendalli reveals that he is close to senior call-up for the Netherlands national team.

Swansea City defender Dwight Tiendalli has revealed that he came close to being picked by the Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal earlier this season.

The 27-year-old joined Swansea on a free transfer last September as cover for Neil Taylor, who had his season ended by a long-term injury just weeks into the new campaign.

After initially struggling to dislodge Ben Davies, the Dutch left-back has produced a series of solid displays for Michael Laudrup's side in the Premier League.

Tiendalli disclosed that he was informed that the Netherlands coaching staff are keeping a close eye on his progress and will consider him for future squads.

He told the South Wales Evening Post: "I spoke to the assistant trainer when he was over here and I was so close to the national team.

"But at that time I didn't play so much [for Swansea], so then it was not going to happen. "He (Danny Blind) said to me that they were looking at me and they were satisfied with what they were seeing at that time.

"But when they came over it was unlucky for me that I didn't play. I have never been in the senior Netherlands squad, and it would be a huge thing for me. We will see if the chance will come in the future. I know what I can do so we will see."

Tiendalli has made 16 appearances for Swansea in all competitions so far this season.
