Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with MLS club Toronto FC regarding the sale of striker Jermain Defoe.
The 31-year-old had been heavily linked with a switch to Toronto, but the club's head coach Ryan Nelsen revealed this week that Premier League clubs have also expressed an interest in the forward.
However, the North London outfit have confirmed via their official Twitter page that Defoe will join up with the MLS outfit on February 28.
Spurs head coach Tim Sherwood said: "This is a great opportunity for Jermain and he feels it is one that he wishes to pursue.
"He has played a big part in the club for many years and we all know he will give his best until his last minute in a Spurs shirt."
Defoe, who has struggled to keep a starting spot at White Hart Lane this season, has made the decision to leave just months before England travel to Brazil for the World Cup this summer.
