Tottenham Hotspur have been offered a deal which could save them £17m if they decide to stay in North London.

Tottenham Hotspur have been offered a deal that could save the club £17m, but only if they stay in North London.

Spurs want to become the long-term tenants of the Olympic Stadium following the conclusion of next year's Games.

However, West Ham United won the bid to use the ground, although Spurs are in the process of mounting a legal challenge to that decision.

Should Spurs decide to stay within the North London area, the Greater London Authority and Haringey Council have made an offer to relieve the club of all community infrastructure payments that planners would normally demand.

The GLA's £8.5m contribution would fund regeneration in the Tottenham area, rather than the stadium itself.

Meanwhile, Haringey Council has agreed to scale down a list of community projects it wanted Tottenham to contribute to, saving the club a further £8.5m.

"The club knows there is no more money available from the public purse and I sincerely hope that they accept the offer we have made," said Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

Tottenham have also been granted consent for a new stadium on the current White Hart Lane site.
